Last year's team succeeded in launching a brand new experience: the maker conference. Falling somewhere in between a hack-a-thon and a traditional academic conference, BarnRaise brought together designers from across the country and participants from many different disciplines to conceptualize and prototype solutions for real problems faced by organizations in Chicago. The goal was admirable and ambitious: to leverage human-centered design thinking and methods, diverse expertise, and teamwork to make a lasting social impact in Chicago and beyond. It was a great success!!
In true living-what-we're-learning fashion, this year's Core Team is iterating on last year's model while staying true to the original intent. Over the past several months we have been speaking with participants from the inaugural event to learn what worked and what could be improved upon. Thus far, we've made several tweaks to the experience.
The making process is at the heart of BarnRaise, so we are streamlining the program this year to give teams more consecutive time to learn, prototype and socialize together. Don't worry, there will still be plenty of opportunities throughout the conference to network with all the participants!!
Here is a journey map to give you an idea of what you'll be doing as a participant:
Our Co-Chairs and Programming Leads are in the midst of putting together a great program for this year. Stay tuned over the next month for a bunch of new partner announcements!!
